White Sands Missile Range holds initial Hypersonic Area of Innovation Meeting converging national needs with regional capabilities and leaders

WHITE SANDS MISSILE RANGE, N.M. (February 6, 2025) – On Jan. 22, White Sands Missile Range Executive Director Vincent M. Liddiard met with senior leaders in the hypersonic test and evaluation community unifying knowledge and bringing together national and regional specialties supporting existing efforts and accelerating an ‘Area of Innovation’ at WSMR. In alignment with the Department of Defense’s National Defense Strategy, WSMR will converge tenant capabilities and resources on post by including the Army, Navy, and Air Force in its hypersonic initiatives to meet the nation’s needs through modernization and strength.


WSMR’s 40-year space shuttle landing anniversary

WHITE SANDS MISSILE RANGE, N.M. (August 5, 2022) On Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at 6:49 p.m. Eastern Time, the CST-100 Starliner spacecraft successfully landed within three-tenths of a mile of its target landing site at White Sands Space Harbor (WSSH). This parachute-assisted landing of the capsule marked the end of the historical Orbital Flight Test-2 and provided groundbreaking data to strengthen NASA's Commercial Crew Program, certifying the Starliner for crewed landings in the future.


White Sands Missile Range holds first entirely soldier-led PrSM test out of Wingate

WHITE SANDS MISSILE RANGE, N.M. (February 4, 2025) – On Dec. 11, White Sands Missile Range test officers in cooperation with U.S. Army Operational Test Command soldiers with the Fire Support Test Directorate conducted a Precision Strike Missile Limited User Test. This test was launched out of Fort Wingate Launch Complex to the dedicated target area of Yucca Point, New Mexico. This was the first PrSM flight test entirely led and launched by U.S. Army soldiers involving a High Mobility Artillery Rocket System launcher, which is an Army Long Range Precision Fires modernization priority and a significant milestone in the development of the program. Tests like this ensure the program is on track to yield reliable and accurate weapons systems for soldiers in the field.


New Mexico State University holds Artificial Intelligence course for White Sands Missile Range and fellow ATEC employees

WHITE SANDS MISSILE RANGE, N.M. (February 5, 2025) – On Jan.31, New Mexico State University hosted White Sands Missile Range employees enrolled in the five-week Classified Ready Employment Workforce program through Chieftain Elite Consulting to present their final class presentations.

"The U.S. Army Test and Evaluation Command and New Mexico State University are strategic partners who are pushing beyond the technological edge to deliver transformational capabilities for Army 2030 and Army 2040," said WSMR Commander Brig. Gen. George C. Turner. "More specifically, the Physical Science Laboratory is leveraging the Defense Leadership Certificate Program to develop Artificial Intelligence warriors to meet today's and tomorrow's global security challenges."


White Sands Missile Range holds SystemsGo high school rocket launches

WHITE SANDS MISSILE RANGE, N.M. (July 29, 2024) On June 15, White Sands Test Center hosted SystemsGo and its participating high school teams for their annual rocket launches on White Sands Missile Range. SystemsGo is an innovative high school rocketry and aeroscience program that uses project-based learning to teach science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The program is certified by The Space Foundation and is implemented in high schools across Texas, New Mexico, Oregon and Colorado.
